Prescriptions rely on Prescription Templates to work most efficiently. If you have not created prescription templates, do that first. Then return to create a prescription.

To create a new prescription, go to the Activities menu and click Create New Prescription.

Select the patient, then the prescription template. When you choose the prescription template, most of the screen is automatically filled in. You can override any of the information in this screen if necessary.

When finished, print the prescription by choosing Print Prescription Sheet in the Options bar. You will be prompted to save this prescription before printing it.

Once printed, an entry is made in the Prescription History section of this screen. This can be extremely helpful when the patient needs this same prescription (or one very similar) at a later date. Instead of choose the Rx Template at the top of the screen, highlight a previously-dispensed prescription and click Copy Previous Prescription. If only one other prescription has been dispensed, you don't even have to highlight it. Just tell the program to copy the previous prescription.
