A Prescription Template contains information concerning a particular drug, such as a pain killer drug. The Prescription Template List shows all drugs already entered in the program.
To create a Prescription template, go to the Setup option in the toolbar, locate the Additional Setup section, and click Create prescription templates.
Click New Rx Template or press F8.
Enter a Template Description. Often this description tells the type of drug it is, followed by the drug name, such as Pain-Ibuprofen.
In the Drug Name field, enter the full drug name and strength.
Under Drug Type, enter the type of drug, e.g., pain, antibiotic, etc.
The Dispense field describes the amount the patient should take.
Enter the number of refills generally allowed for the prescription.
Enter the number of days the patient has to get the prescription filled. You don't want someone to be sitting at home for a year before deciding to fill the prescription.
Also mark if a generic substitution is acceptable.
The Rx Instructions and Patient Instructions fields will most likely be identical, so only fill out the top box. These are the instructions that generally are printed on the label or the information sheet that accompanies the drug when the prescription is filled. However, there could be times when you need to use both fields.
Click Save Changes or press F3 to save the template.
If you dispense prescriptions for the same drug but different strengths, create a template for each strength of the drug, altering the description for easy identification.
Once templates are created, it is very easy to create a prescription for a patient at the end of an appointment. See Prescription Entry.
The columns displayed in the Prescription Template screen are customizable. See Customizing a Screen.
In addition, the filters can also be changed -- added to, removed, etc. See Customizing Filters.
